You can call RGF’s Supportline 1777 for free. Confidentiality is guaranteed; the caller can even choose to stay anonymous. The Call Centre agents are available to give advice and to offer support. You can also call our supportline to book an appointment at our offices to get help as regarding self-exclusion or for any further support.
SELF-EXCLUSION
Gamblers can self-exclude themselves from casinos, gambling parlours and bingo halls, all licensed with the Malta Gaming Authority. Self-exclusion periods vary from 6 months, one year, an indefinite period or an auto-renew option. According to the New Gaming Act, if a gambler wants to self-exclude for an indefinite period, a medical certificate is still requested, and always bring a valid ID Card. Also, the Foundation now offers free blocking software to help those struggling with gambling addiction. Such software - BETBLOCKER and GAMBAN - can be easily downloaded and installed on various devices, including desktop computers, laptops, tablets and mobile phones. These blocking software are designed to restrict access to gambling sites and other online content that may trigger addictive behaviours. Call 1777 to book an appointment today.

FAQS
-
What is gambling addiction?Gambling addiction, also known as pathological gambling or compulsive gambling, is a behavioral disorder characterized by the inability to control or stop gambling despite negative consequences. It often leads to significant personal, financial, and social problems.
-
How can I recognise if I have a gambling problem? Some common signs of a gambling problem include being preoccupied with gambling, having difficulty controlling gambling behaviour, gambling with increasing amounts of money to experience the same excitement, experiencing restlessness or irritability when trying to cut down or quit, and resorting to dishonesty or illegal activities to fund gambling.
-
Is gambling always a bad thing?Gambling itself is not inherently good or bad, but it can become problematic when it leads to negative consequences or develops into an addiction. Responsible gambling involves setting limits, treating gambling as entertainment rather than a source of income, and being aware of the risks involved.
-
How can I gamble responsibly?Responsible gambling involves setting and sticking to a budget for gambling, treating it as a form of entertainment rather than a way to make money, setting time limits, and avoiding chasing losses. It's essential to be aware of the risks, not gamble when under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and seek help if gambling becomes a problem.
-
Where can I find help for gambling addiction? There are several resources available for individuals struggling with gambling addiction. You can seek support from helplines specifically dedicated to gambling addiction, such as the RGF's National Support Line 1777. Additionally, professional counselling, therapy, and support groups like Gamblers Anonymous can provide assistance and guidance. Gamblers Anonymous (GA) is a meeting of compulsive gamblers who are willing to treat their condition and stay away from the world of gambling. Gambling very often leads to difficulties within the family, at the place of work, with friends, with the law and in financial matters. Family members of compulsive gamblers find themselves immersed in these difficulties. Yet their support is essential to keep a gambler away from this corrosive practice. Family members of gamblers meet separately in the GamAnon group to share experiences and explore ways of being supportive to gamblers who have made the decision to stop gambling. Separate GA and GamAnon meetings are held On: Mondays From: 6.30 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. At: Caritas Community Centre, Triq Mountbatten, Ħamrun

How can I help a loved one with a gambling problem? If you suspect a loved one has a gambling problem, it's important to approach the situation with care and understanding. Express your concerns without judgment, offer your support, and encourage them to seek professional help. You can also suggest attending support groups together or assisting them in finding appropriate treatment options. Remember, ultimately, the individual must take responsibility for their own recovery.
